Couple of things
- Tim Callahan is right. The primary reasons you're seeing an increase in the average salary of the state's school superintendents is because various school districts bid, more or less, for the services of those particular employees. That type of talent is sought out, while other employees do their own seeking. As a result, a few high-profile moves, and the resulting salary increases from those moves, can dramatically skew the overall number.
- As if you needed further proof, Ray McBerry is a really weird dude.
- You know, for a group of folks who only work on this thing 40 days out of the year, they sure do take a lot of days off. And, for their hard work so far this year ... we've got discussion of a bill to bar Hustler from using crime scene photos and one letting students carry guns on campus. Awesome. Glad to see we're focusing on the big picture.
- With a vote hopefully planned for this weekend, House Democrats are still rounding up votes to pass the Senate bill. I still think it's likely the legislation passes, largely based on the gravity of the vote. It'll be close, but Democrats can afford 37 internal defections and, right now, they're looking at 30-35 possible defections. And, if you're curious, Rep. John Barrow is one of those defections ... because, you know, that makes sense.
- Let's leave aside the fact that John Oxendine is now on his third campaign manager in the past year, and instead step back and recognize that the intellectual direction of a hypothetical Oxendine governorship is in the hands of Tim Echols.
- Gosh, you mean Rep. David Ralston said it just to get elected? Politicians never do that kind of thing.
- Very cool news. The Andersons are some of the kindest, most sincere people around, and it's refreshing to see them identify a permanent home after all these years. If you'd like to help them out, click here.
