The 'big' moments of 2009

Thu, 12/31/2009 - 8:45am |  Johnathan McGinty

- The return of liveblogging and, in particular, our joint venture with Dan Lorentz at both Walker's Pub and Trappeze.

- The Georgia Theater fire and the inspiring determination of Wilmont Greene to bring it back better than ever.

- The Office wedding.

- Georgia beating Georgia Tech 30-24 on Nov. 30. No matter how lopsided that series is in our favor, few things give me as much joy as hammering the Yellow Jackets ... especially in years like this one.

- The tragic shooting spree of George Zinkhan, killing three innocent people in the process.

- Chi Phi goes back on its pledge to preserve Arnocroft.

- Both houses of Congress, culminating with the U.S. Senate's Christmas Eve vote, passing comprehensive health care reform representing the most significant, progressive legislation in more than 40 years.

- Oconee County Commissioner John Daniell, despite internal opposition, continuing to advocate for an economic partnership with Athens-Clarke County.

- The launching of the revamped Beyond The Trestle. I've been itching to put together a new format and new look for this blog for more than two years, and, thanks to Martin, it became a reality. We've got a lot of ideas and plans as we move into 2010 that we'll start sharing with everyone next week.
