Couple of things
- Again, I'm not opposed to legislation permitting the sale of raw milk. My problem is that the very people who are clamoring for the law to change don't like this proposal, and they shouldn't. It's devoid of oversight and is nothing more than an excuse for Rep. Bobby Franklin to do some silly chest-thumpin' about 'big government.'
If Franklin's name sounds familiar, it ought to. He's the guy who called for an armed revolution against the government earlier this month. On Facebook no less.
- This is really, really good. It's in response to something that's sorely needed, but has featured significant revision throughout the process. And, as we move along toward the end game, it appears the Athens-Clarke County Commission will have a rather narrow, but fair, ordinance aimed at protecting existing historic structures in the community.
- Well, I do really like Buhl Cummings. He's a kind man and a good man, but his logic is obviously flawed. So in light of my respect of him, I'll simply share an entertaining story between he and I. Back when I covered high school sports, I was staffing an Athens Christian football game. Cummings, who founded the school, also serves as the stadium's announcer (which is marvelous in its own right). I had settled into my spot in the press box right next to him, and he leaned over and said 'Coach tells me you're a believer!' I was somewhat confused by the statement, so I awkwardly replied 'well, I'm a Baptist.'
- Dan Lorentz wants to completely subsidize the use of the bus in Athens-Clarke County, which is an awesome idea ... but also an unfeasible one given the revenue problems at the local level and the inability of the state government to even consider additional funding for alternative transportation.
